Disney have decided to go all “live-action-remake” crazy and have announced a ton of exciting new films that we just can’t wait to see. Here’s 6 live-action remakes that have got us super hyped and counting down the days till their release – it’s time to start salivating:

Release date: March 29th, 2019

Despite being a Disney children’s film, Dumbo has quite a dark storyline, so having Tim Burton direct this live-action adaptation is actually pretty fitting. Eva Green, Michael Keaton and Colin Farrell will all star in the film – let’s hope they can recapture the magic of the original 1941 film.

Release date: March 27th, 2020

This film is still two years away from its release date, but Disney have already secured their leading lady for the titular role, and Chinese actress, Liu Yifei AKA  Crystal Liu, will play ‘Mulan’. Disney have remained pretty tight-lipped in regards to other details about the film, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Eddie Murphy will step up as ‘Mu-Shu’ again.

The Lion King

Release date: July 19th, 2019 (marking the 25th anniversary of the original!)

We all went wild when Disney revealed they were making a live action remake of The Lion King, with Beyoncé starring as the voice of ‘Nala’. The original Lion King came out in 1994 and is one of the highest grossing animated films of all time. On top of this, the award-winning musical is also in its 18th year and has been a huge success, so the film sure has big shoes to fill!

Release date: May 24th, 2019

Yup, Disney have decided to make a ‘whole new’ Aladdin and of course it’s going to be a live-action movie. The cast has been announced as Mena Massoud as ‘Aladdin’ and Naomi Scott as ‘Jasmine’, and with Will Smith taking on the role of ‘The Genie’, the film should be full of laughs.

The Nutcracker And The Four Realms

Release date: November 2nd, 2018

There may not have been an original “Nutcracker Disney” film, but Disney’s 1940 film, ‘Fantasia’, heavily incorporated the themes  as well as a selection of pieces from Tchaikovsky’s now-classic ballet ‘The Nutcracker’. Keira Knightley is set to play the ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’ in this live action adaptation of the Christmas story and from the costumes alone, it looks like we could be in for a treat.

Mary Poppins Returns

Release date: December 21st, 2018

OK, so maybe this doesn’t count as a “remake”, but the original Mary Poppins was released in 1964 – a whopping 54 years ago – so ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ just doesn’t feel that much like a sequel. Regardless, with Emily Blunt already taking up her role as the new ‘Mary Poppins’ and Meryl Streep also a part of the cast, the film is sure to be a cracker.
